Joseph J Jaresek was born and raised in Milwaukee wisconsin. The son of Czeckeslovakian immigrants.
He joined E Company in Africa. He fought with the company in the hills of Tunesia. Taking and holding hill 389 in a week of "heavy artillery and mortar fire". He fought in Sicily at Troina and Randazzo. He was a squad leader in 2nd platoon when he and my grandfather landed in Normandy. They fought through the shelling and the strong point to close the pennisula and surround Cherbourg. At last came the day the invest the port city. E company was given the sector through center south of the harbor. The sector would lead them to city hall. They did not know that the sector also included the undground bunker of the high command and over 800 men. It was fortified with over lapping machine gun and mortor postiions in town. Sgt Jarasek was felled by a gun fire leading his men through the city.
